Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look gave players the most detailed official demonstration of the game so far.
A DEEPER LOOK AT GAMEPLAY
Released on 27 August 2026, the presentation runs for more than 26 minutes and is made entirely from in-game footage captured on PlayStation 5.
Rather than simply introducing characters and locations, the Extended Look focuses on how GTA VI actually plays.
JASON AND LUCIA IN ACTION
Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos are shown carrying out a wide variety of activities throughout the presentation.
The footage demonstrates how the two protagonists move through Leonida, travel together and become involved in criminal situations.
Their relationship is also shown outside of major action sequences, giving a better impression of how their personal lives and criminal ambitions overlap.
ROBBERIES AND CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES
The Extended Look provides several examples of criminal gameplay.
Jason and Lucia are shown planning and carrying out robberies, using weapons, driving getaway vehicles and dealing with the consequences of their actions.
The footage also demonstrates how situations can quickly change, with characters reacting to events around them and the protagonists having to adapt.
This gives a clearer indication that GTA VI's missions are designed around more than simply travelling to a location and following a fixed sequence of objectives.
DRIVING ACROSS LEONIDA
Vehicles remain one of the most important parts of GTA VI's gameplay.
The Extended Look shows Jason and Lucia driving through Vice City and the surrounding areas, with a wide variety of traffic and environments visible throughout the footage.
The presentation also highlights different types of vehicles, from everyday cars to high-performance vehicles and larger transport.
The scale of Leonida means driving is also a major way of moving between very different parts of the world.
WATER, BOATS AND SWIMMING
The presentation gives another look at GTA VI's water-based gameplay.
Jason and Lucia are shown travelling by boat and moving through coastal environments, while swimming is also demonstrated.
These sequences highlight the importance of the waterways surrounding Vice City and the wider Leonida region.
The Keys and other coastal areas appear to offer considerably more opportunities for exploration than simply serving as scenery around the mainland.
COMBAT AND MOVEMENT
Combat is another major part of the Extended Look.
The footage shows Jason and Lucia using firearms during criminal encounters, while also demonstrating the movement and animations Rockstar has built around them.
Characters move through environments with a greater emphasis on physical interaction and animation than previous Grand Theft Auto games.
The result is a more detailed presentation of how characters move, take cover, handle weapons and react to situations.
A LIVING OPEN WORLD
One of the strongest impressions from the Extended Look is the density of Leonida.
Traffic fills the roads, crowds gather in different environments and characters appear to continue their activities around the protagonists.
Wildlife, businesses, interiors and environmental details also contribute to the sense that the world exists beyond the player's immediate actions.
This is particularly noticeable when Jason and Lucia move between urban, rural and coastal environments.
MORE TO DO OUTSIDE MISSIONS
The presentation also shows that GTA VI's gameplay extends beyond the main story.
Social activities, travel, exploration and interactions with the world appear throughout the footage.
The wider range of activities helps make Leonida feel like a place that players can spend time in even when they are not progressing through a major mission.
THE DETAIL OF LEONIDA
The Extended Look also demonstrates the technical ambition behind GTA VI.
Buildings, vehicles, characters and interiors contain significantly more detail, while lighting, weather and environmental effects help differentiate different parts of Leonida.
The footage was captured entirely on PlayStation 5, giving players a clearer idea of the visual quality Rockstar is targeting for the final game.
WHAT THE EXTENDED LOOK TELLS US
The biggest takeaway is that Rockstar is showing considerably more of GTA VI's actual gameplay as launch approaches.
Trailer 1 established the setting.
Trailer 2 introduced more of the characters, story and world.
The Extended Look goes further by demonstrating how those elements come together during gameplay.
It still leaves plenty of the game unrevealed, but it currently provides the clearest official picture of what playing GTA VI will actually feel like.
THE ROAD TO LAUNCH
Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled to launch on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
With the Extended Look now released, Rockstar's marketing campaign has entered another major stage.
More information about Leonida, its characters, vehicles and gameplay could still be revealed before launch.
