After years of anticipation, Rockstar Games has officially confirmed the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI.
THE RELEASE DATE IS CONFIRMED
GTA VI is currently scheduled to launch worldwide on 19 November 2026.
The game will release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
For millions of players waiting for Rockstar's next Grand Theft Auto, the date represents the current end point of one of the industry's longest-running development cycles.
HOW THE RELEASE DATE CHANGED
GTA VI was originally announced with a 2025 release window.
Rockstar later announced that the game would move to 26 May 2026.
That date was subsequently replaced by the current 19 November 2026 release date.
The changes have extended the wait, but Rockstar has consistently emphasised the importance of giving the development team enough time to deliver the experience it is targeting.
THE NOVEMBER 2026 DATE
Rockstar announced the current release date on 6 November 2025.
The announcement confirmed that GTA VI would move from its previously scheduled May 2026 launch to 19 November 2026.
The studio said the additional development time would allow Rockstar to finish the game to the level of quality players expect.
Unless Rockstar announces another change, 19 November 2026 is the official release date.
WHY WAS GTA VI DELAYED?
Rockstar has not described the change simply as a technical delay.
The studio's messaging has focused on allowing additional development time to complete and polish the game.
That additional time can be important for a project on GTA VI's scale.
Rockstar is building a large open world containing Vice City, the Leonida Keys, rural areas, waterways, dense traffic, crowds, wildlife, interiors and a huge number of characters and vehicles.
THE SCALE OF LEONIDA
The additional development period gives Rockstar more time to refine the wider Leonida experience.
Official footage has already shown an enormous variety of environments, from the streets and beaches of Vice City to quieter coastal and rural areas.
The game also features a large cast of characters and a wide range of vehicles and activities.
Making all of these systems work together consistently is a major part of finishing an open-world game of this scale.
JASON AND LUCIA
The release date also marks the next stage of the story surrounding Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.
The two protagonists are at the centre of GTA VI's narrative and become caught in a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida.
Rockstar has gradually revealed more of their relationship through its trailers and the 2026 Extended Look.
The November launch will finally allow players to experience their full story.
CONFIRMED PLATFORMS
Rockstar has officially confirmed GTA VI for:
PlayStation 5
Xbox Series X|S
These are the only platforms with an officially announced release date.
A PC version has not been given an official release date by Rockstar.
As a result, any specific PC launch date circulating online should be treated as speculation unless Rockstar confirms it.
PRE-ORDERS
GTA VI is currently available to pre-order.
The UK PlayStation Store currently lists the Standard Edition at £69.99 and the Ultimate Edition at £89.99.
Current pre-order information also includes the Vintage Vice City Pack and one month of GTA+ for eligible players.
Digital players can begin pre-loading on 12 November 2026 according to the current official information.
That gives players approximately one week to download the game before launch.
THE TRAILERS LEADING TO LAUNCH
Rockstar's marketing campaign has already provided several major looks at GTA VI.
Trailer 1 arrived on 4 December 2023 and introduced modern-day Vice City and Lucia.
Trailer 2 followed on 6 May 2025, providing a much deeper look at Jason, Lucia, Leonida and the game's wider cast.
On 27 August 2026, Rockstar released the 26-minute Extended Look, which was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5.
Each reveal has progressively shown more of the game as development moves toward launch.
THE EXTENDED LOOK
The August 2026 Extended Look was particularly significant because it moved beyond a conventional trailer.
The presentation showed Jason and Lucia driving, fighting, carrying out criminal activities, using boats, swimming and interacting with the wider world.
It also demonstrated the density and detail of Leonida.
For players waiting for GTA VI, it provided the clearest official indication yet of what the game will actually be like to play.
THE FINAL WAIT
With the release date now set for 19 November 2026, GTA VI has entered the final stage of its pre-launch campaign.
Rockstar has already revealed the game's protagonists, setting, major characters, vehicles, music, editions and gameplay.
More information can still be revealed before launch, but the central question of when GTA VI will release has been answered.
WHAT HAPPENS ON 19 NOVEMBER?
On 19 November 2026, Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to become available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Players will be able to explore Rockstar's modern interpretation of Vice City and the wider state of Leonida for themselves.
After years of trailers, announcements and delays, the next chapter of Grand Theft Auto will finally move from anticipation to release.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Grand Theft Auto VI is officially scheduled to release on 19 November 2026.
The confirmed platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The date replaces the previously planned 26 May 2026 release and the original 2025 release window.
Unless Rockstar announces another change, 19 November 2026 is the date GTA VI will launch.
