Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look arrived on 27 August 2026, giving players the most substantial official look at Rockstar's next Grand Theft Auto game so far.
THE EXTENDED LOOK ARRIVES
The presentation premiered on Netflix before becoming available later that day through Rockstar's official YouTube channel and the official Grand Theft Auto VI website.
Unlike the game's earlier trailers, the Extended Look focuses heavily on footage from the actual game rather than presenting a conventional cinematic trailer.
ROCKSTAR'S FIRST EXTENDED GAMEPLAY LOOK
Rockstar described the presentation as a showcase of the biggest and most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet.
The footage was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5.
That distinction matters because the presentation provides a much clearer impression of how GTA VI's world, characters, vehicles and gameplay systems are being brought together during actual play.
The presentation runs for more than 26 minutes and moves between Jason and Lucia, different parts of Leonida and a wide range of activities and situations.
A NETFLIX-FIRST PREMIERE
The Extended Look was unusual for a major game reveal because its first public release was through Netflix.
Rockstar announced that the presentation would premiere on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET on 27 August, before arriving on its official YouTube channel and the GTA VI website at 9 p.m. ET.
Netflix described the release as a major collaboration with Rockstar and highlighted the unprecedented anticipation surrounding GTA VI.
The presentation was subsequently made available to watch for free through Rockstar's official channels, meaning a Netflix subscription was not required to watch the official YouTube release.
JASON AND LUCIA
The Extended Look spends significant time with both of GTA VI's protagonists.
Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos are shown travelling through Leonida, carrying out criminal activities and interacting with people across the state.
The footage gives a stronger sense of how the pair operate as a team.
Their relationship remains central to the game, but the presentation also shows that they can find themselves in very different situations and environments as their story develops.
A CLOSER LOOK AT LEONIDA
The presentation moves far beyond the streets of Vice City.
Players get another look at the wider Leonida setting, including coastal areas, rural environments, waterways and the Leonida Keys.
The contrast between dense urban areas and quieter parts of the state reinforces Rockstar's approach to making Leonida feel like a complete region rather than a single city surrounded by empty space.
The footage also highlights the density of the world, with busy roads, crowds, wildlife, interiors and environmental details appearing throughout.
MORE THAN JUST MISSIONS
One of the biggest takeaways from the Extended Look is the range of activities taking place outside traditional missions.
The footage shows driving, boats, swimming, combat, robberies, social activities and other ways of interacting with the world.
Several sequences also demonstrate how Jason and Lucia can approach situations differently depending on what is happening around them.
This makes the Extended Look particularly useful for understanding GTA VI as a playable open world rather than simply a cinematic story.
A NEW LEVEL OF DETAIL
The presentation highlights the level of detail Rockstar is putting into Leonida.
Characters react to their surroundings, vehicles fill the roads, interiors contain considerably more detail and different environments have their own visual identity.
The footage also provides a closer look at animation, lighting, weather and the way characters move through the world.
Because the footage was captured entirely in-game on PlayStation 5, it gives players a much stronger indication of the visual and technical direction Rockstar is targeting for launch.
WHAT IT MEANS FOR GTA VI
The Extended Look represents an important change in the way Rockstar is marketing GTA VI.
The first trailer introduced the world.
Trailer 2 expanded the characters, locations and story.
The Extended Look went further by showing how that world actually functions during gameplay.
It still does not reveal everything about GTA VI, and Rockstar has not shown every system, mission or location.
But it gives the clearest official picture yet of the experience Rockstar is building.
WHAT COMES NEXT
GTA VI is currently scheduled to launch on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The Extended Look has now become one of the central pieces of official GTA VI material, alongside Trailer 1, Trailer 2 and Rockstar's ongoing updates to the official game website.
With launch approaching, further announcements and reveals are expected as Rockstar continues its marketing campaign.
